What we do

Thembelihle or “Good Hope” (a Hope that all shall be well)

We currently provide education to 275 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, 75 in the pre-primary school and 200 children in the primary school. As most of these children cannot afford to attend school, the governing body of the school makes an effort to find sponsorship for as many of these disadvantaged children as possible. Through the generous sponsorship of their school fees by members of the church and community, we are able to provide an education for children from a pre-primary level until they are ready to attend state funded high schools.

Mission and Vision

To provide a quality education to under-resourced communities from the Howick area. The school aims to equip learners for life through an education that fosters innovation and excellence. The governing body and teachers hope to nurture and promote the academic, spiritual, social and emotional growth of the children. The School is inter-denominational and welcomes learners of all faiths and from all backgrounds.

School vision statement: To be a Beacon of Hope in the Pursuit of Excellence

Structure of the school

Thembelihle Primary School consists of two campuses. The pre-primary school is located at the “Old Parsonage” at 8 Dicks Street, Howick. The primary school is housed at 90 Main Street in Howick.

The pre-primary campus caters for boy and girl learners between the ages of 3 and 6. Through innovative learning programs, we provide a stimulating environment for the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual development of the child.

The primary school encompasses a holistic school environment that through the Formative Junior and Senior Primary phases, aims to develop the learner academically, socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Thembelihle currently offers schooling for grades 1 – 7.
