The Team

Damon and his family

I am primary school trained and started my teaching career in 1999 at Port Shepstone Senior Primary School. I was very fortunate to be counselled and mentored by Mrs Jill Sparrow and Mr Kanthan Appalraju, highly respected Educationalist on the Kwa-Zulu Natal South Coast. I was the hostel superintendent for Ryder House Hostel and Grade Leader for Grade 7 for numerous years. I was offered an opportunity in the corporate world in 2007 and left teaching to pursue a career in business as a senior manager for Keruco Foods cc.

I decided to return to teaching in 2014, and was delighted to be offered the position of Principal at Thembelihle Primary School starting 2015. I am very blessed to be a part of the Thembelihle family and look forward to a long association with the School.

I am married to Sally Shaw, a Head of Department at an under resourced public school, and have two beautiful boys – Cameron and Warren. We are a strong Christian family who believes that God is fully in control of our lives and our destinies.

I am the Administrator for Thembelihle Primary School. I started working at Thembelihle in March 2014. I have enjoyed being part of the Thembelihle family and have learnt many new skills since working here. I look forward to many more happy years at Thembelihle.

I am the Mum to three girls, Hannah, Emma and Erin, so life is never boring!

I currently teach Grade RRR at the Thembelihle Pre-Primary School.

I started working for the Howick Methodist Church as a cleaner in 2008 and then later became responsible for the cleaning of the primary school. During this time I studied part time for a Certificate in Early Childhood Development. Last year I became the teacher of the Grade RR class and I LOVE teaching!! I am a single mother of a little girl who is 8 years old and attends Howick West Primary School.

My name is Londeka Mkhize and I am a mother of one. I enjoy teaching and love to see how children developed.

I am an open and approachable person who is committed to improving the lives of the children in my care. I value my family time and enjoy reading.

I am married to Sydney Mbongiseni and have two children of my own. I have been teaching at Thembelihle for 11 years. I was a cleaner before teaching. Helen Barge who was the old headmistress believed in me and helped me to study further. I love working with the Grade R children and see these little ones as an extension of my family.

I am currently teaching classes to all the Grade 1 children. I enjoy working with children. They are a gift from God as the bible tells us. They are always determined to do their best especially when they are happy. The children who I was teaching at Merit Christian School enjoy being at their new school and they are very proud of it!

I am currently teaching 35 Grade 2 learners at the school. I am so happy to be part of the courteous family of Thembelihle School.

My name is Cebisile Shabalala. I am the Grade 3 educator at Thembelihle Primary School. I started teaching in 2008 at Merit Christian School. I have a strong love fro children and enjoy teaching.  I am currently studying my Bachelor of Education through UNISA.

I am currently teaching Grade 4. I joined the Thembelihle team in July 2012 and have enjoyed every moment since. I love teaching and working with children. I coach netball and enjoy interacting with the learners in a different environment. I am married with three children and I enjoy being a mum.

Bev Malan

Travelling, language and enriching the lives of those around me have always played a pivotal role in my life. I had the privilege of interning with Joyce Ntuli in Grade 1 at Thembelihle in 2014, after returning from a year of teaching in Sri Lanka. Prior to teaching, I have a publications background in Cape Town, and am currently completing my education degree. Subsequently I have been honoured to teach Grade 4, 5, 6 and 7 at Thembelihle, which is the most divine little gem with the most precious children. In all honesty my teaching career began back when I was in Grade 4 myself, hauling my nephews and nieces in front of my little blackboard during the holidays! Children will always define our future and having the unique opportunity to help shape theirs, is a gift beyond words.

My name is Tsitsi Hwata. I started working at Thembelihle in 2015 as a substitute teacher. I was very happy to be offered a full time position in 2016 to teach the Grade 6 class. My child Tawananyasha is currently in Grade 7 at Thembelihle.  I’m originally from Zimbabwe but have been living in south Africa since 2008.

My name is Isheunesu Aaron Kombora. I came to Thembelihle in November 2012 as a locum teacher. I was appointed as a permanent staff member in January 2013.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Sports as well as a diploma in Education. I helped introduced Sport at Thembelihle and love playing Soccer. Currently I am the Sport’s Director at Thembelihle. I live in Mpophomeni Township and I have two children.

I joined the Thembelihle teaching staff as the new grade1 teacher during 2014. I am however no stranger to the school as I have been an intern at the pre-school over the last 3 years whilst obtaining my Early Childhood Development qualification. I am currently studying for my Bachelor of Education degree through correspondence and will graduate in 2015. I love to read in my spare time and enjoy being involved with both the music and sporting programs at Thembelihle. I have two children, a boy of 9 and a girl of 6 who attends Thembelihle – also a baby on the way!

I live in Howick during the week but on weekends I go to my family at Elandskop – a rural area about 35km from Howick. I do not have a child of my own yet. I love children. I have been working at Thembelihle for 14 years now. I teach Zulu at the primary school. My dream is to start my own pre-school.
